Calcutta (India) The Communities of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Dum Dum, Bandel, Barasat, and Kalyani, of Mary Help of Christians Province of Calcutta (INC), made contact with the elderly and poor families left without work, migrants, and people who live on daily wages, severely affected by poverty and unemployment as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, to bring them food and basic necessities.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with FMA Past Pupils, teachers, and parents, as immediate action in the Coronavirus emergency, especially following the lockdown that led to the closure of activities and the isolation of the population. Some communities, such as St. Mary Mazzarello community of Ranchi, Sacred Heart novitiate of Ranchi, and Mary Help of Christians community of New Delhi – Vasant Vihar, contacted the population in difficulty in collaboration with the parishioners, the Conference of Religious of India (CRI), and other religious communities.
The kits distributed are made up of rice, potatoes and dhal, oil, protective masks, and other essential goods. This solidarity initiative, which began on March 30, 2020, is still ongoing, in cooperation with government officials, police authorities, and other volunteers in many communities of the INC Province, which has thus been able to reach and bring help to more than 1500 families.
