Guwahati (India) The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and the students of the 2nd level Secondary Schools of the Child Jesus and Mary Help of Christians Communities of Guwahati, of the Indian Mater Ecclesiae Province (ING), joined together to provide help to the families of the neighborhood who are affected by the blockage of work activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The blocking of activities and the lack of wages, coupled with the due social isolation, are severely affecting migrant workers, employees, the urban poor, and other vulnerable groups. The lack of food and health kits and the loss of revenue for the purchase of basic necessities have left many people deprived of what is necessary to live.

350 families living around the Child Jesus School, mainly migrants, domestic workers, daily wage workers, and construction workers, have been receiving parcels of dry food since 7 April 2020. Each pack contains 5 kg of rice, 2 kg of cereals, oil, salt, and detergents.

The FMA and the volunteers of the promotion center for women “Auxilium Reach Out”, instead took on the production and distribution of protective face masks.

The people reached by the aid expressed their gratitude to the FMA, the students, the staff of the Schools and the volunteers for helping them in these difficult times that left them without work and without earnings to feed their families and an enormous state of anxiety and apprehension about their future.
