Castel Gandolfo (Italy). In view of the 150th anniversary of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (1872-2022), the Novices of the International Novitiate Mary Help of Christians of Castel Gandolfo, Rome, of St. John Bosco Province (IRO), driven by the desire to make Mary Domenica Mazzarello more known and to make her accessible especially to young people, enriched the YouTube channel “Mother Mazzarello in music” with new songs created and overseen by them.
In fact, at the beginning of the Triennial in preparation for the 150th of the Institute, Mother Yvonne Reungoat had written:
“In these three years, it will be everyone’s commitment to involve the educating communities, especially the young people, in rediscovering Mary Domenica in her richness as a young woman and in the prophetic dimensions of her spirituality and educational mission” (Circular 989).
The Novices recount, “A new input came from the Youth Ministry of ‘Mary Help of Christians’ Province of Spain (SPA) that asked us to translate some songs into Spanish to be able to insert them on an App created for young people. Providence led us meet the parish priest of the Parish of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother in Rome who in his Oratory has a very modern recording room and made available the ‘Miriam’ room, with two sound engineers who followed and accompanied us.”
On 15 September 2021, with instruments and scores, the Novices and the Formator, Sr. Teresa Espinosa, went to the Miriam studio to record the songs:
“There we found a large soundproofed room with stations for the instruments. Each had her own microphone and headphones through which to hear her own voice, that of the others, and the instrumental track. Then there were two other small rooms, one in which the soloists sang and another in which one of the two technicians recorded and perfected voices and sounds.”
The Novices recorded six songs, five in Spanish and one in Italian, which are gradually uploaded, one every two Sundays, to the YouTube Channel “Mother Mazzarello in music”, expanding the repertoire with quality music to spread the Salesian charism:
“We are truly grateful for the unprecedented experience, which we hope is not unique, that we have been able to have and we pray that everything can really serve to spread the knowledge of Mother Mazzarello.”
