Mother Yvonne Reungoat, 9th Mother General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, was born on January 14, 1945 at Plouenan in France. She has 49 years of religious profession. She has been a member of the General Council for 18 years and has been Mother General of the Institute since 2008.
Her service of animation and government began in 1983 as Provincial of the FMA in France. In 1990 she was nominated delegate of the Provincials of Spain and France for West Africa. This role allowed her to get to know another part of the Institute and, in that same year, she took part in the XIX Gegeral Chapter. In 1991 she was elected Superior of the African Province Mother of God, with its centre in Lomé (Togo). During these years she gave particular attention to relationships with the Sisters, the young people in formation, collaboration with the Salesian Family, the formation of animators and love for the poorest.
In General Chapter XX (1996) she was elected as a Visiting Councillor. During the following six years she visited the communities and met the FMA in six Latin American Provinces, four in Europe and Korea. In 2002 at General Chapter XXI she was nominated Vicar General of the Institute. She lovingly followed the communities directly dependant on Mother General, co-ordinated the planning and organisation of formation courses for new Provincials and encouraged collaboration between the Institute and the Association of Cultivators of Salesian History (ACSS).
In 2004 she visited the communities of the Province of St. Teresa, Madrid and in 2005 the Province of Our Lady of Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
During General Chapter XXII of 2008 she was elected Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. In the present Chapter (the 6th in which she has participated) she has been re-elected Mother General, for a second six-year term. When asked by Sr. Ciriaca Hernández, the longest professed Chapter Member, if she accepted this mandate, Mother Yvonne spoke with great emotion and said: «I accept! I thank you for your confidence. The biblical phrase that supports me is: ‘When I am weak, then I am strong’. I entrust myself entirely to Mary and accept her invitation: ‘Do whatever He tells you’».
