Sr. Maria Helena comes from Goiânia (Brazil) where she was born on September 26, 1953 into a family with strong Christian roots. It was there that she matured her Salesian vocation . Her sister, Vani, is also an FMA.
She has a solid cultural preparation and is degreed in Literature and Education. She completed her studies in Rome, where she obtained a Master's degree in Social Communications at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS). She also frequented an advanced formation course in School Administration. Sr.Maria Helena also made her graduate studies on the Preventive System of Don Bosco.
She was dedicated to the teaching of language and literature and taught Communication in the houses of initial formation and in the Intercongregational Juniorate . She also held the post of Principal. She was Province Coordinator in the specific field of Communications and for this sector, of ECOSBRASIL (Equipe di Comunicazione Sociale Brasil) and of ECOSAM (Equipe di Comunicazione America). For a few years she was Province Coordinator for the Provincial Team and was also a member of the editorial Council of the Salesian Bulletin in Brazil.
During recent years she was Communications Consultant for the Network of Salesian Schools and a member of the Directive Council for the same organization of Salesian networks.
After having carried out the role of Community Animator, and that of Councilor and Provincial Vicar, she was appointed Provincial of Mother Mazzarello Province of Belo Horizonte (BBH).
She was elected as Councilor for Communications by General Chapter XXIII. When asked by Mother General if she accepted the mandate, Sr. Maria Helena responded: "Yes, in faith and counting on the light of the Holy Spirit. Close to Mary Help of Christians, I accept to be a collaborator of the Holy Spirit together with all of you."
