Formation for the care of children and adolescents at risk
From July 12 to 23, in the provincial house of the South Mexico Province (MME), the coordinators for education and culture and the animators of the five family homes in the Province met for a workshop-course under the title of: "Formation for the care of children and adolescents in situations of risk and of emotional emergency". They were supported by the C&A Institution.
The course was led by Dr. Jorge Fierro, while the Salesian area was cared for by Sr. Rosalba Cervantes and Sr. Maria Luisa Segundo, who developed the theme: “The Preventive System in situations of social risk . ” They referr ed to the oratorian work of Don B osco and Mother Mazzarello, which aimed at giving a holistic education , in order to develop human dignity and offer an opening to faith. The two FMA gave theoretic and scientific inputs that encouraged dialogue between resilience and the Preventive System.
The aim of this course-workshop was the formation of the Sisters and lay people who work with children and adolescents at risk from 3 to 18 years, who live in houses of the province. It was an opportunity to accompany the educators in their attempts at creating, in their institutions, environments in which it is possible to form people. They reflect ed on: emergency psychotherapy, psychological links, emotional intelligence, conduct change, internal and external motivation, the meaning of life , the psychology of children and adolescents, sexual and affective education, the psychological interview, techniques for the practical application of logotherapy and neurolinguistic programming.
There were 30 participants between lay people and Sisters, who work in the different houses of province, in Michoacán: House of Nostra Signorara De la Esperanza and Family Home of Maria de Guadalupe and i n Chiapas: Albergue Infantil Salesiano A.C., Family Home of Auxilio A.C., House of María de Nazaret A.C.
Here are some of the ir comments at the end of the course: «Reflections , conceptual content and introspection exercises accompanied the theoretical and practical knowledge learned during the workshop. Every lay person and FMA has the possibility of being happy and of making others happy by developing their capacity for accompaniment and all the tools acquired help both our own formation and our work with our recipients. We experienced the conviction of the deep meaning of being more human, with clear ideas about our identity and mission».
The meeting ended with a formative day or ganized by Sr. Dolores Martínez FMA, in which the participants interacted in building, visualizing, and planning the apostolic work of t he coming scholastic year, sharing short strategic plans that they will apply in the family homes and in the works dedicated to the care of those in situations of risk.
