World Feast Gratitude Day -2013
TOGETHER IN FAITH TOWARDS FULLNESS OF LIFE
Preparation for the world Gratitude day – Auxilium Convent, Negombo – SRI LANKA- INM

Seed of Faith sown in your soil yesterday
• Persons who sowed the seed of faith in our country and in our province INM are St.Thomas the Apostle the disciple of Jesus Christ, St. Francis Xavier, St. John De Britto and numerous saintly Jesuits, Salesian Missionaries and our Salesian Sisters.
• In Sri Lanka Bl.Joseph Vaz from India, Goa and many
• The dedicated and sacrificing life of missionaries welcomed many non believers into Catholicism They paved for continuity in their proclamation of Good News through various institutes that even today bring many to the knowledge of Christ and his mission.
• The seed of faith has also kindled many to offer their life at the service of God and His people through various religious congregations.

Challenges you encountered in living the faith in the community and the mission today
 The core of religious life ,the rhythm of every member ,the capacity of understanding, the commitment, the continuity focused towards the life of perfection differ from person to person and this challenges the individual and the community .
 Accepting one another with everyone’s assets and liabilities demands constant exercise of faith life.
 Recognizing the goodness of the other‘s and being grateful to all that is offered by the community will strengthen one’s faith life and bless the Lord for such strength in community living.
 The baptized Christians to live as Christians becomes yearly performance of their religious activities as we come across children having parents are deprived to live with their parents as each one choose another partner .The continuity of Christian faith offered to their children in their childhood is at risk as they are not convincingly prepared to live their Christian faith .And so a constant reminder to live Christian faith becomes a challenge in our mission.
 The family catechism is also one of the important aspects to be seen in the mission. As the family is responsible to continue the formative accompaniment in the family and in the society.

FEAST OF GRATITUDE

Seed of Faith sown in our soil yesterday

Throughout history, the Gospel had edified communities of believers in all parts of the world. St.Thomas – “The Apostle of India” introduced Christianity to Tamil Nadu between 52 -72 A.D. After St.Thomas’ martyrdom in the 1st century the Portuguese, Dutch, British and Italian missionaries came to revive and spread the faith in Tamil Nadu. We remember with gratitude the dedication of generations of missionaries and martyrs who have nurtured our faith. To name a few among them, St.Francis Xavier, S.J. Patron Saint of the Propagation of Faith of all the missions to India, Japan, China and Australia. St.John de Britto, S.J. a Catholic missionary priest from Lisbon, Portugal spread the faith, and suffered martyrdom at Oriyur, Tamil Nadu. Bl. Devasagayam Pillai - a lay witness and catholic martyr of the Diocese of Kottar in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu was beatified on 2nd December 2012. The Salesian missionaries first came to Vellore in Tamilnadu, India and established institutions and worked for the people in remote places to baptize them and strengthen their faith.

Missionaries initiated our faith and through Christian literature they were able to reach the people and spread the religion.

St.John De Britto, Beschi, Robert de Nobili, Italian missionaries transformed themselves as Indian Sannyasis and they were able to spread the faith through inculturation. Indigenous customs, traditions and rituals were followed by them to help the people to practice the faith.

Challenges we encounter in living the faith in the community and the mission today.

In the community:

In daily community living, when we meet with difficulties, faith is challenged and weaknesses take upper hand than the values.

In the community spirit of faith needs to be sterngthened to accept the daily challenges of living.

The young generation who embrace religious life need to be formed in faith.

In the Mission:

The families pay more attention to academics, accumulation of wealth and other comforts for their children, but fail to give faith.

The faith of the young people is shallow and they do not show interest in the practice of religion.

The sacramental life needs to be nurtured through participation in the Holy Eucharist, Reconciliation and other pious practices which are not given importance in the family.

To instill faith in young people and encounter the faithful God is a challenging task.

We feel the need to revive the faith that risks being eclipsed in the cultural context which hinders its taking root in persons and its presence in the society.

New ways for an evangelization tomorrow

To help people to encounter the Lord who alone fills our existence with deep meaning and peace.

The beauty of faith must particularly shine in the actions of the sacred liturgy above all in the Sunday Eucharist, where the meaning of the Gospel is visible in word and gesture. So, it must be made more creative and appealing to God’s people.

Interiorizing the Gospel will enable holiness of life.

To motivate the Catholic youth to read the Bible to be strengthened in faith and to encounter Jesus.

The Christian families living together with people of other faith do not reflect the image of unity and love. The Catholic communities need to support those who are in the path of conversion and reconciliation.

The consecrated persons need to establish themselves as witnesses and promoters of New Evangelization with their charism.

The world of the young is demanding but also particularly promising field of New Evangelization.

The New Evangelization requires that we pay attention to the world of Social Communication especially the News Media. It is a new opportunity for touching the human heart.

A field of encounter between faith and reason today, is the dialogue with scientific knowledge.

We need to witness to the precept of charity in the exercise of Politics.

The social doctrine of the Church is integral to the pathways of the New Evangelization and it helps to serve the humanity in social and political life.

The gift of the year of Faith is a precious gateway into the path of New Evangelization.

AUXILIUM COLLEGE, REGUNATHAPURM

PROPOSAL IN PREPARATION FOR THR FEAST OF GRATITUDE 2013

PERSONAL AND COMMUNITY LEVEL:

• Seed of faith sown in the soil yesterday:

The pioneers of Regunathapuram began the mission in the year 2002 in the name of the Lord to strengthen the faith of the people through Sunday Catechism, visits to the families of the locality and conducting Evening coaching classes for the students who were studying in the government Schools of the village up to 12th standard. The Sisters also organised for the youth of the village VIDES movement and Self Help Groups for the women to blend their spirit to serve for the betterment of their families and to be the source of change for the development of the society.

 As initial mission the Sisters were teaching catechism to the parish children through which they molded the children into good Christians and honest citizens.
 They kept alive the Educative Charism of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello by conducting Evening coaching class to the poor students who were admitted in the local Government schools.
 VIDES members collaborated with the Sisters and rendered their service in teaching the coaching class children.
 Visiting the families helped the Sisters face the daily reality and implant in them love for God and devotion to Our Lady. Liturgical animation and praying rosaries in the families during month of October created in them greater desire for prayer.
 The sick and the elderly people of Regunathapuram were comforted by the reception of the Holy Communion through our Sisters every Sunday.
 Women Self Help Groups formed by the Sisters were followed up with regular formative programmes and savings to maintain with great interest.
 VIDES group members were enthusiastic to collaborate with the Sisters in the mission among the young people. They also render their service in teaching the evening coaching class students and in visiting the families.

• Challenges encountered in living the faith in the community and in the mission today:

Organizing and administrating Higher Educational Institution for the young girls of the rural villages itself is a challenge that we face daily. It includes lack of basic and important facilities such as: transportation, communication, modern and advance technical device, electricity, stationary materials, personnel for plumbing and electrical works, experienced and trustworthy drivers for the big and small vehicles, etc… make our work and mission tough and tedious day by day.
 People of the area are ignorant and illiterate to render their collaboration in the level of Higher Education. Moreover multi religious background makes them to be more egoistic.
 Rather difficult to get lay collaborators and competent teaching faculties to be our long hands in our mission and in our institutions.
 Poor economy and irresponsible parents are the stumbling block for the Higher Education of the young girls of this locality.
 Sacramental administration is not given so much importance by the Catholics of the area. Moreover Priests are not available to celebrate Holy Eucharist daily and for the administration of the other Sacraments.
 We find rather difficult to get priests for animation and recollections for the community and for the hostel students since we are in the remote place and being sub-parish as well in its nature.

• New ways for an evangelization tomorrow:

We do believe that today’s young people are the pillars of the future society. If we educate the girls and strengthen them in faith it is a sign that we build a more educated and faith-filled domestic Church. Therefore we would like to concentrate on the following as a means of New Evangelisation:
 To concentrate on Catechetical instruction on a regular basis to the Catholic students so that they are formed to be good, God loving and honest citizens and also form as an active committed group in their locality.
 To use modern gadgets and media in a creative way to proclaim the “The greatest of all is Love”.
 To appreciate life as a gift from God and love for life among all the recipients.
 To make them accept the realities of life with faith.
 To have meaningful liturgical celebrations, presenting the life of the Saints, great Leaders of today, value propagating movies and documentary films.
 Our constant accompaniment, witnessing life, listening attitude and quality presence will make them to be more open to the teachings of Preventive System.
 To inculcate Salesian methodology among our staff members so that they could live and be the sign of God’s love in dealing with the young.
 To promote ‘Anbiyam’ ‘Basic Christian Communities’ among catholic families and live and share their faith with their neihgbours. And be sign of hope.

S.Maria D. Mazzarello – Tirupur.
Proposal in Preparation for the world Gratitude 2013
Personal and Community Level
 Seed of faith sown in your soil yesterday
Tirupur is located very close to Coimbatore. It is an industrial migrant city popular for its knitwear companies. It provides jobs for all ages. So many people migrated from other places and settled in Tirupur to earn their livelihood.
At the early stage there was only St.Catherine’s Church, there were a few catholic families in the vicinity of Kumar Nagar and were going to St.Catherine’s Church for all their spiritual needs. As the years rolled by the number of catholic families were increasing in and around Kumar Nagar. The faithful of these areas wanted to have a parish church in their locality. So St.Joseph’s church was built in 1982. We the FMAs came to Tirupur in 2003 and started our mission at Thaneerpandal and around it, which belongs to St.Joseph’s Parish, Kumar Nagar. From that time onwards we, sisters are rendering our services to the parish and parishioners through Sunday catechism, preparation for marriage, adult baptism and First Holy communion. We collaborate in the activities of the parish too. We are the only religious congregation existing in this parish and we render our service to the maximum.
 Challenges we encounter in living the faith in the community and the mission today are :
To accept the daily events with the spirit of faith
Our recipients are coming from broken families, not cared by their own parents and family people, uneducated; they are rebellious by nature due to lack of love and understanding. So we need faith and patience to accept them as they are to form conviction and make them to imbibe values.
No delicacy of conscience
 New ways for a evangelization tomorrow
Direct evangelization by distributing Gospels
Viewing visuals on the word of God
Celebrating the Bible week
Participating in the Holy Eucharist
Credible witnessing life by expressing love like the early Christians
Offering renewal courses for the married couples
Youth animation, taking part in the world youth day.

Preparation for the Feast of Gratitude 2013
Auxilium Home – Michealpuram Chennai province
Greetings from Sr.Kanickraj shanthi , Sr. Fernado Juliet and Sr.Xavier Jenophia Jenophia. We are happy and waiting for the event, we spiritually prayed and prepared for the gratitude day celebration. We are happy to share what we live.
Personal and community Level:-
1. Seed of Faith sown in your soil yesterday
We have sown the seed of Faith in our Michealpuram village, Since we are the first Sisters who are working here- so through the catechism classes for Adult and children, Basic Christian Community participation, family visit and personal encounters. By animating the Liturgy in the parish and sub-stations and breaking the word of God with the tailoring students, evening coaching class students, oratories and with the patients who come to our dispensaries.
2. Challenges we encounter in living the faith in the community and in the mission today
Being the first community we face every now and then problems which arrives arise in many ways for example;- people who are close to our land out of jealousy create problems, some of them are very much rooted in traditional practices, for every new changes they revolt, they are not for change. Fault finding attitude of people, causes non co-operation from students, teachers and workers. Lack of facilities to carry on the mission, Yet we as a community take everything to the Lord in Prayer and get strength, guidance from the Lord, to carry out our mission with joy and love.
3. New Ways for an evangelization tomorrow
Through Media and personal meeting we will sow the seed of trust and faith in the Lord.
• By well prepared Catechism we will help the students to know and taste the Lord. Reading the word of God, meaningful participation in the liturgy, will allow them to mature in the Christian values.
...................................................................................................................

What was the seed of Faith sown in your soil yesterday?
• Understood the people by learning the language.
• They took from the hands of God the climatic conditions, food etc.
• Love for the poor
• Foreseeing the need of others.
• Visiting the families in order to know and help them
• They start oratories for the children and youth and instructed them in the faith.
• Generosity
• Shared among the poor and needy
• Loved God and very detached
• Distributed a lot of rosaries and pictures and medals to the families.
• Economic development like feeding the poor, giving them shelter, healing them, attracted the people to the Christian faith.
• They made great sacrifices for the missions and for young people.
• No caste, no high caste or low caste, for them all were children of God and they worked with the poorest of the poor.
• They were united spiritually with Jesus even though they could not receive the sacraments because of lack of priests,
• Simple life style which attracted the people because they did not use the money for their own comforts but for the development of the people.
• They took care of the orphans and made them to study and placed them well in society and even gave them jobs in their own schools and houses.
• Though they were belonging to different nations they were able to overcome their individual and community difference in their sharing in the missions.
• They worked very hard, made lot of sacrifices for the people and worked miracles because of their simple faith in God.
• They gave good example with their witnessing life and what they preached they practiced because they led authentic lives.

CHALLENGES WE ENCOUNTER IN LIVING THE FAITH IN THE COMMUNITY AND THE MISSION TODAY.
• Sometimes we look at things from a human point of view and not as the will of God.
• We seek our own comforts and we don’t have the optimistic mind to accept each other through ups and downs like our first sisters who lived by faith and the vision and mission was clear for them and they did not worry about the other things.
• We are living in a post war situation where healing has not taken place and there is a lot of uncertainty.
• People are going away from the Church to other denominations and they are not convinced of coming back to the Church.
• Media especially films viewed by young people and adults makes them neglect their Christian duties,
• Tuitions are a major concern of parents and children and hence they are ready to miss Sunday mass, etc.
• Mixed marriages due to war etc. they do not go to any church and they leave the church and follow other sects.
• Our approach towards all people irrespective of caste and creed must be according to the Preventive System.
• We have to make the congregation know to the people, learn the language, customs and culture of the place.
NEW WAYS FOR AN EVANGELIZATION TOMORROW
• Re-evangelizing families who have gone far from the church because of war, segregation and unhealed wounds through frequent family visits and counseling.
• Settling mixed marriages through catechesis and instructing those who have gone away from the church to other sects through evangelization.
• Strengthening their faith life by making them understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Church History.
• Start the group movements for the evening school children.
• On the 24th. of every month call the neighbourhood Catholics for rosary and instruction.

SACRED HEART CONVENT, POLUR,T.V. MALAI DT.
INM. CHENNAI.
Personal and Community level proposal for the
                       Feast  of  Gratitude 2013

1. Seed of Faith sown in our soil yesterday :-
The place that we live is a rural area christianised by our Salesian missionaries a place given to us on 21.06.1928. From then on the       following works were taken up.
The dispensary work started on the 24th instant
            Regular Oratory from March 1929
Canonical creation of the Novitiate in 1932 then shifted to Yercaud 1944
            Elementary school in 1943
            Industrial school in 1945
            Orphanage in 1961
            Leprosy centre in 1964
            Past-pupils association in 1971
            Typing Institute in 1981
The first missionaries worked hard to achieve our goal; “To form good christians honest citizens;” through instruction, parish ministry, visiting families, visiting the sick, forming Marian sodality, oratory, summer camps etc.
The parish had 32 substations, but our sisters could successfully assist 10 substations for rural development and gave the animation, spiritual awareness, social upliftment, health and hygiene etc.
The people of the place who believed in superstitious religious practices and who due to ignorance had the lack of formation of conscience gave tremendous difficulties to our sisters to evangelise them. But the constant effort of our sisters with the Salesian fathers have given a face lift to the life of people of Polur.
So today we have the elementary Government aided Orphanage with 210 boarders from std. I - V  ; 85 the High and Higher Secondary  school children ; The English Medium Matriculation school to give good education with English knowledge which is an essential factor for education of today is the achievement of the hard work of yester years. So many people have embraced  catholicism, have got education, got civilized and obtained health care. The poor are taken care by our salesian presence and it is being continued till today.

2. Challenges that we encounter in living the faith in the community  and in the mission today

- Culture of Polur is quiet challenging surrounded by villages and each village having its own religious believes and customs. Our people are still with so much of the superstitious belief ,although most of the village people are being educated and evangelized. Still there are areas where the first generations is being educated now.
                                    - Todays Government’s expectations and the interference in all the fields make our administration work heavier and so those who are working in the Institutes are made to be administrators rather than being religious leaders.
                                    - The virtue of cosmic harmony is the Indian Heritage which is slowly getting diminished with the emerging new ideas and media’s interventions. This is another greater challenge for us to give nature meditation, Yoga practice and to cultivate active silence to pay heed to the inner voice.
                                     - Poverty, inequalities, injustice and oppressions that which exists in the rural areas is another greater challenge.
                                    - Our rural areas are still awaiting the basic necessities to live and grow as free persons.
                                     - Our young people from the poor families seek realities. Since they are deprived of their rights they express their dissatisfaction through protest, revolts and even violence.
                                    - The economic conditions and the need for the basic necessities make our people leave aside the religious practices as the one which could be given the last place.

3. New ways for an evangelization tomorrow:-

 - Suitable structures have to be provided that laity can be helped. So that
they may play their role in evangelization.
             - Family catechism through 'BCC' to ensure the Faith life of the growing
              infant.
-Youth Catechism for our young boarders.
            - Through the parents meeting help them and re educate them for family
             prayer moments.
-Make our educational Institutions of our campus, "Channels of Good News".

‘TO GETHER IN FAITH TOWARDS THE FULLNESS OF LIFE”SANGAMAM - KEELA ERAL

TUTICORIN DISTRICT

TAMIL NADU

SEED OF FAITH SOWN IN OUR SOIL:

Keela Eral belongs to Tuticorin Diocese. It is located on the Madurai Tuticorin highways. Through the hard work and sacrifice of the Missionaries the seed of faith was sown in our soil. Through regular family visits and by taking interest in their affairs we were able to bring them to our faith. Quality faith formation was given through formal and non-formal education. The social status of the poor Dalit people was promoted by fulfilling their basic needs. The various sectors such as Youth groups , Self Help Groups , Evening Coaching classes and Oratory were wonderful means of faith formation and social transformation. The faith of the lapsed Christians was renewed and deepened through regular reception of the Sacraments.

CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED IN LIVING THE FAITH:

COMMUNITY:

v Superficial faith and lack of coherency in word and deed.

v The respecting rhythm of each member in the community and accepting their uniqueness requires constant faith.

v The real challenge is to face the daily realities in the light of faith.

v The daily forgiveness and acceptance of one’s own limitations requires the exercise of faith.

MISSION:

v Shallow faith of the people due to the lack of frequency of the reception of the Sacraments.

v Ignorance about the religion

v Influence of the other religions, since neighbours belonging to other religion

v Inter-Religious marriage and caste systems bring disharmony among the Christians.

v Due to the influence of Mass media and recent trends the young people face many challenges in living their faith.

NEW WAYS OF EVANGELIZATION.

Ø The constant reference to the Word of God to strengthen the faith of the people.

Ø The gospel way of living through Witnessing presence among the young, a Gospel word in the ear.

Ø Paying particular attention to the new trends on social communication so as to make it a real means of new evangelization.

Ø Promoting the rights of women and marginalized young people so as to empower them become good Christians and honest citizens.

• Through our Baptism, early childhood formation received from our parents, through catechism classes and parish activities.
• In the year 52-72 A.D, St. Thomas Didymus, the Apostle of Jesus brought the seed of Christianity in Tamil Nadu. St. Francis Xavier S.J, St. John de Britto S.J, Robert de Nobili, Constantine Joseph Beschi brought the seed of faith. Venerable Devasagayam Pillai, a lay person witnessed through his martyrdom to be the disciple of Jesus.
• Our six pioneers who reached Tamil Nadu, Thanjavur, gave us a strong faith and moral formation. Our early missionaries had a choice of the poor and they saw Jesus in the poor.

2. CHALLENGES YOU ENCOUNTER IN LIVING THE FAITH IN THE COMMUNITY AND THE MISSION TODAY.

• Difficulty in direct evangelization due to multi-religious, cultural background.
• Assuming inculturation and incarnational method in our evangelizing activities.
• We need courage and strong faith in our religion on Jesus Christ, in order to have educational institutions where majority are Hindus, Muslims and Protestants.
• Lack of Christian witnessing among ourselves – which is also a great hindrance. (Individualism, materialism and Shallow faith), Superstitious belief play a very important role in transmitting Christian values.

AUXILIUM HOME - INM
Feast of Gratitude
Seed of Faith sown in our soil yesterday
“Lord you seized me, and I could not resist you.”
Jesus Himself chose His disciples – from the water front, the marketplace and the tax office. And this is being continued till today.
Captured by His fire of Love, the number of Holy persons who stepped into our soil initiated our faith. St. Thomas Didymus, the apostle of Jesus, Portuguese, Dutch, British and Italian missionaries. St. Francis Xavier S.J., St. John De Britto S.J., Robert do Nobili, Constatine Joseph Beschi, and venerable Deva sagayam pillai a lay witness and Catholic martyr of the Diocese of Kottar in Kanyakumari district, Tamilnadu was beatified on 2nd December 2012, and The Salesian missionaries first came to Vellore in Tamilnadu, all nurtured our faith. They were powerfulful instrumental in the progress of our daily faith journey.
Through their faith filled life they imparted to us the gospel values and transmitted the ability to trust and tolerate situations and ambiguities. The missionaries expressed their faith through their character and behavior. They taught us to overcome the world through our unshakable faith.
It is these Holy & Brave people who carried the good news of the gospel to us who were sitting in darkness and enabled us to rise up economically, socially and politically baring our life on Faith.
Challenges we encounter in living the faith in the community and the mission today.
In the community
There is an immediate need to offer credible witness to the faith of the individual.
To embrace stewardship responsibility in the community living.
High commitment is required to do the will of God.
In the mission
The Kingdom of God principle will have to be preached and proclaimed ceaselessly.
Faith must be practiced and nurtured in the hearts of the young to respond to injustice, misery, poverty and social situation and to discover god’s will for them.
The families & the young people are to be trained to personalize Faith.

New ways for an evangelization tomorrow
Humanity’s redemption is only through Jesus Christ as the faith of the Church and the consecrated persons should proclaim the message without fear.
The Chosen people to become the living Gospel among the people where there are diversities, dichotomy of values and disintegration.
The young world need to know, understand and experience the living Christ.
The church to remain relevant and all the faithful subscribe to its teachings to love God and to love one another
The transformation and the reformation to take place in the families and the religious institutions and learn to live with acceptance of other religion.
It should be witnessed that Faith cannot be replaced by Liberal, political, scientific and social ideas.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

• The seed of faith sown in your land – yesterday
Our missionaries, saintly people, ancestors, forefathers and parents had solid faith and they were able to transmit it by the witness of their life.

 The faith that was sown in our land was life giving and witnessing one.
 They were courageous to bear witness to Christ and were ever ready to offer themselves in all adversities at the service of the people,
 they were Christ centered and committed for a cause
 They were loyal to the church and its mission.
 They put on the nature of Jesus and proclaimed Him through their lives.

• The challenges that you encounter to live the faith in community and mission – today

 Lack of conviction, witness and commitment, diversion of our goals.
 Wavering (shallow) faith and lack of personal encounter with Jesus and our failure to surrender to God’s will
 We try to control events by our own skill and work out the way we think best and fail to let Jesus work through us.
 At times we depict Jesus according to our thinking and mindset as a result we fail to communicate Him.

• The new ways of evangelization – tomorrow

 We should have strong ecclesial commitment to new evangelization in order to rediscover the joy of believing and the enthusiasm for communicating faith.
 We need to strengthen our commitment and stand for God through the witness of our lives
 We have to put on the attitude and nature of Jesus if we wish to give Him to others.
 Our faith should be based on our personal experience of our faithfulness to God’s call for a greater commitment.
 We need to use the modern means of communication to make Jesus to the younger generation.
